Overview Perspecta is the largest provider of background investigation services for the U.S. government in the federal, intelligence and civilian space. We are currently seeking independent contractors to be background investigators in the San Juan, Puerto Rico area. Candidates will be considered based on qualifications specified below. Successful independent contractors come from a variety of backgrounds. Some include Fraud Investigations, USPS Investigations, Police OfficerDetective, FederalStateLocal Investigator, Private Investigator, Investigative Journalist, Social Worker and Probation Officer. As a federal contractor regardless of the laws in your state, marijuana use is prohibited with this position. Responsibilities As an Independent Contractor with Perspecta, you will Run your own business and contract with us to conduct background investigations for the purpose of determining employment suitability for people who require access to sensitive or classified government information, initially focusing on casework for the National Background Investigations Bureau (NBIB). Casework for other contracts will be assigned based on investigator performance and business need. Investigators need to provide evidence of insurance (including liability and, if using a personal vehicle, auto and a valid driver's license), and, as applicable, marketing materials, a fictitious name statement filing, articles of incorporation, city or county business license and professional license. Contract investigators need to provide business bank account information as well as a W-9. Contract investigators receive a 1099 and are, by law, obligated to file their own business taxes. Independent contractors are not Perspecta employees, are not eligible for benefits, and are not paid by the hour. Receive casework for within a reasonable distance from home location. Additional work may be requested in different geographic areas, for instance when a Contract Investigator travels out of town. Perspecta does not reimburse for mileage and travel expenses. These are expenses of the Investigator's business. Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Candidates must live in the area they are being contracted for before the start of the government-mandated training. Conduct face-to-face interviews and perform record searches at institutions of all types, report all obtained information in a clear and concise report on an issued government computer system. Investigator complete most tasks during general work week business hours, and most tasks have specific government due dates of within 2 - 3 weeks. Investigators control their work schedule by accepting or rejecting work, have complete flexibility to perform similar or other services for third parties, including all competitors, work from a home office, and receive compensation on an engagement-completed basis. As Contract Investigators schedule their own work, they are able to do so efficiently to maximize profit. Note, investigators are responsible for correcting assignment mistakes without compensation. Essential Functions Must be able to sit for long periods of time, stand, walk, move about a facility, bend, stoop, and climb stairs drive demonstrate sufficient hand, arm and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment lift and move up to 10 pounds speak and hear sufficiently to communicate in person and over the phone read words and numbers maintain visual ability including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and to adjust focus able to pay attention to details able to concentrate interact professionally, cooperatively and productively perform in a manner that prevents errors and omissions tolerate a constant, moderate noise level work independently. Training Independent Contract Investigators without experience working NBIB background investigations in the last 12 months or without documentation showing they have been trained to the National Training Standard must complete training per NBIB contract requirements. The training time in weeks 1-4 is unpaid. Beginning in week 5, Contract Investigators are paid for their own casework on a per task-completed basis. Field Investigator Training consists of a 6-week curriculum detailed below. Weeks 1 - 2 Live web based training from home location on a set schedule. The training is not on-demand. Training will consist of class participation, reading, homework, as well as two days of observation in the field with a current investigator. A mid-term score of 80 or higher is required to continue. Weeks 3 - 4 Two consecutive weeks of classroom training at Perspecta's office in Loveland, CO or another designated location. An open-book final exam will be administered at the completion of this portion of training. A score of 80 or higher is required. Individuals with a score below 80 will not join the Perspecta team as an investigator. Weeks 5 - 6 On-the-job training, consisting of 80 hours of field case work with a current investigator in your home location. Qualifications Experience conducting NBIB or other federal background investigations is preferred. Candidates with 4 years of general work experience or a Bachelor's degree will also be considered. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Possess a "can do" attitude, strong work ethic, impeccable integrity, and a passion to support national security initiatives. Ability to effectively manage time to meet government deadlines. Ability to professionally and effectively interact with a variety of individuals. Excellent written communication skills in both Spanish and English for report-writing requirements. Comfort with typing (40 WPM) and intermediate computer skills (specifically email and Microsoft Word). U.S. citizenship. Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable adjudication on a federal investigation, which includes an investigation of 10 years of residence, education, work, financial, medical and personal information. Ability to attend the mandatory training class including 2 weeks away from home (see below). Access to reliable transportation. Resumes and cover letters must be submitted in English.
