A Brief Overview
The Mortgage Compliance Officer oversees and maintains a comprehensive program for compliance risk controls and reviews throughout the organization to ensure company compliance with mortgage banking and related servicing laws and regulatory matters at the federal and state level, including but not limited to applicable regulation to PR, FLA and ECR. Serves as the controls expert by providing leadership and meaningful input to ensure policies and procedures comply with rules and regulations associated with mortgage lending
What you'll do
* Recommends, develops and implements changes to existing and proposed procedures, policies, and programs. Oversees revision and dissemination of new and updated compliance standards and procedures.
* Provides advice and guidance to business units in PR and ECR, as required regarding operational impact of investor and/or compliance changes.
* Provides advice, guidance and insight to Management on emerging compliance issues and consultations. Guides the company in establishment of controls to mitigate compliance issues.
* Directs and tracks the implementation of operational changes in order to maintain compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, investor requirements and standard mortgage practices.
* Support management with audits/review's responses.
* Review and draft as requested, procedures, policies, operational circulars and/or any other forms or communications.
* Draft opinions as requested by management related to applicable regulation.
* Evaluate areas and recommend training opportunities re Regulatory Knowledge.
* Participates in projects involving new or changes to existing regulatory impacted mortgage products or services.
* Lead the Business Line Risk Assessment for PR and ECR.
* Act as Fraud Officer for Mortgage Department
What You'll Need to Succeed
Formal Education
* Juris Doctor Degree together with specialized regulatory compliance training.
* Bachelor's degree Accounting, Business, Management or other areas is preferred.
Knowledge and Experience
* 5-10 years' experience in risk management, audit, compliance and or legal research/practice.
* Excellent English and Spanish written and verbal communication skills
