Elementary Library Assistant
Position Summary:
Saint John's School, a Toddler to 12-grade co-ed secular school, actively seeks a dynamic and seasoned individual to join our team. The role of an elementary library assistant is crucial in assisting the librarian, teachers, and students in effectively utilizing library services. This role involves coordinating library maintenance, managing inventory, and supporting various library operations to ensure a seamless and enriching user experience. This position requires strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
A minimum of two (2) years of previous experience, preferably within a private or independent school setting.
Proficiency in literacy skills, including information, media, visual, digital, and technological literacy.
Competency in computer systems, including MS Office, Internet, and other web applications.
Exemplary work ethic, an upbeat demeanor, adaptability, and a willingness to undertake assigned tasks.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and oral skills in both English and Spanish are a must.
Friendly and professional demeanor with strong interpersonal skills.

Main Goals:
Support the Elementary Library program to align with SJS's mission, goals, and objectives.
Promote critical thinking, enthusiasm for reading, and ethical information usage among students.
Serve as a liaison for teachers in integrating library resources into lesson planning and instructional design.
Evaluate and enhance the library's active resources, such as magazines and books.
Oversee inventory control and management.
Greet and assist students, parents, faculty, and staff in a friendly and professional manner.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Review and procure library supplies as needed.
Assist with the handling and processing magazines and other literature delivered to the school.
Conduct inventory management for books, magazines, and other library resources.
Manage library materials' check-in and check-out process, including shelving and general organization.
Assist with the opening and closing of the library, ensuring all equipment is turned off and the library is secure.
Announce closing times and ensure all users leave the library promptly.
Update and organize new magazines and books in the library system and manage the display of new resources.
Maintain and update library archives and files.
Draft memos, letters, and other forms related to library operations.
Handle phone calls and manage scheduling for library use, including class visits and media center appointments.
Support book exhibitions, participate in special library events, and assist library helpers, parent volunteers, and other support staff.
Enforce library policies and procedures, maintaining discipline and ensuring compliance with library rules.
Aid with technology, including printers, multi-use equipment, and projectors.
Collaborate with the Library Supervisor or Leader to develop strategies for enhancing library resources and address any issues impacting daily operations.
