FIRST was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. With a National Headquarters based in Manchester, NH, the 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people (pre-K-12) to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills. The FIRST AmeriCorps VISTA program places VISTA members in strategic in locations to support FIRST programs nationwide.
Member Duties :*Please note that this position is currently only open to residents of Puerto Rico and candidates who speak both English and Spanish* FIRST VISTA Members work to: 1) Support and assist in the recruitment of teams, mentors, coaches and volunteers with an emphasis on securing and sustaining support to the low income/underserved, 2) Identify specific underserved schools and communities as locations to establish FIRST teams or sustain and grow existing teams, 3) Raise awareness of grant, funding, and scholarship opportunities among underserved students, schools or teams, 4) develop and execute strategies to meet the support needs of local organizations that support FIRST teams in low income/underserved areas, 5) Track and report out on specific performance milestones and measurements.
