Job Summary: Accountable for full scope of activities required for effective manufacturing of transport refrigeration units and components by performing the following duties personally or through supervisors in a two or three shift operation. Responsibilities: Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise around 120 employees in the area and other groups of employees in other production areas under his responsibility. Is also accountable for direction of quality control technicians, maintenance personnel, and engineer assigned to the Business Unit or other area under delegated responsibility. Directly supervises hourly employees in the day shift, if necessary. Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance within IR and Thermo King's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Implement actions within the guidelines of the Annual Operating Plan and plant objectives to recommend and establish production and quality standards. Develops budget and cost controls for Production areas under his/her responsibility. Coordinate with other management personnel to establish safety, production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and meet delivery dates of products ordered. Plan and direct production activities and establishes priorities and direct departments accordingly to meet objectives. Oversee staff of production leaders responsible for daily production management of 100 employees, to monitor and optimize production resources. Monitor and lead team to ensure compliance with quality, safety and environmental standards. Review and evaluate the performance of supervisors, engineers and others reporting to position; provide opportunities for employee development and growth; review team activities, making recommendations for improvement where appropriate. Develop and provide leadership to a team of supervisors, engineers, team leaders and technicians to achieve continued profitability and operational improvements. Accountable for production and planning of all components required for Aftermarket business. Maintain close communications with Engineering function to ensure effective implementation of new products, Engineering changes and quality issues resolution. Support lean culture development using Business Operating Standards for continuous improvement. Facilitates and coaches in problem solving tools. Support Preventive Maintenance System for equipment, fixtures, tools and jigs Review and analyze production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems. Actively support teaming by participating in strategic planning through the teams; encourage employees and supervisors to make decisions at the lowest possible level. Maintain positive employee relationships and communications with a diverse workforce to support a culture of employee involvement and empowerment. . Work with engineering teams to drive initiatives to improve production and quality of products. Develops and implements operating methods and procedures to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality. Assure uniform application of policies and procedures to obtain a high level of morale essential to the continuous operation of a union-free environment. Improve profitability of TK's current and new products and processes through management of facility and cost improvements and productivity enhancement initiatives, while developing core competencies in the plant Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience Engineering degree or other pertinent bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. . A minimum of five years of related manufacturing experience in an electromechanical environment in a managerial or supervisory position. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific or technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries from Thermo King corporate functions or complaints from customers or dealers, regulatory agencies or members of the Puerto Rico business community. Ability to write business / technical reports or articles in English or Spanish. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, clients or dealer visits to plants. Mathematical Skills Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of database software, use of Internet software, CNC manufacturing software, project management software (i.e., Microsoft Project), spreadsheet software (i.e., Excel) and word processing (i.e. PowerPoint) software.
