POSITION SUMMARY:

A *History Teacher (Grades 7–12)* is responsible for providing engaging, standards-based instruction in history and the social sciences to students in a bilingual and multicultural environment. The teacher develops and delivers lessons that promote historical thinking, civic understanding, and global awareness, while meeting the academic and developmental needs of students. Responsibilities include lesson planning, assessing student learning, managing classroom activities, and maintaining open communication with families and school staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

*Responsibilities and Duties:*
* Provide an instructional program in *History/Social Studies* that is aligned with the Caribbean School's Mission, Vision, and Beliefs, as well as the educational standards relevant to Puerto Rico and U.S. curriculum frameworks.
* Plan and implement engaging lessons covering topics such as world history, U.S. history, civics, government, and historical methods, adapted to the needs and interests of students in grades 7–12.
* Encourage the development of critical thinking, research, and analytical skills through the use of primary sources, class discussions, debates, and multimedia resources.
* Create and maintain a positive classroom environment that fosters academic curiosity, respectful dialogue, and cultural awareness.
* Develop and use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student learning and guide instructional decisions.
* Maintain accurate records of student grades, assignments, and attendance, and communicate progress regularly to students and parents.
* Use assessment data to inform instruction and support student achievement.
* Implement classroom management strategies consistent with school policies and expectations.
* Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to meet the academic and behavioral needs of students.
* Participate in school duties including committee work, extracurricular activities, and supervision assignments (e.g., lunch duty, arrival/dismissal).
* Attend Parent's Night, parent-teacher conferences, professional development sessions, and other school functions as required.

Requirements and Skills:
* Bachelor's degree in *History, Education, Social Studies, or a related field* (Master's degree or certification preferred).
* Valid teaching certification/license for secondary education (Grades 7–12), or ability to obtain certification in Puerto Rico.
* Fluency in English; strong communication skills in both spoken and written English.
* Experience in integrating technology into the classroom using *Google Workspace (Docs, Classroom, Drive, Calendar)* and Microsoft Office applications.
* Familiarity with Student Information Systems (SIS), digital gradebooks, and online learning platforms.
* Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a structured and respectful learning environment.
* Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
* Commitment to student-centered teaching and continuous professional development.
* Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse school community and maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
