Job Description Supports the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) and the National Science Foundation’s United States Antarctic Program. ASC Electrician Foreman will perform and supervise electrical maintenance and construction work, or any combination thereof, under direction of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. GENERAL DUTIES (not all-inclusive): Implements and maintains a safe workplace program, ensuring safety is the highest priority in the workplace. Supervises the activities of FEMC Electricians and Apprentices. Performs installation of branch circuits, power distribution wiring, electrical equipment, fixtures, and conduit according to the National Electric Code (NEC). Troubleshoots and repairs existing electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Performs scheduled Preventative Maintenance of electrical systems and equipment. Responds to afterhours emergency calls for repairs and service Evaluates material needs for tasking and assigns duties as appropriate to subordinate staff. Advises FM Supervisor and/or Construction Manager of job progress, material requirements and personnel matters. Interprets schedules, design drawings, specifications and wiring diagrams to carry out tasking. Completes accurate and thorough documentation of work performed and processes involved. Works outside in extreme cold weather and environmentally challenging conditions. Adheres to ASC Electrical Safety Program and strives to promote electrical safety throughout the United States Antarctic Program. Identifies unsafe conditions and/or NEC violations and reports them to the FM Supervisor. Works directly with other departments to plan and complete tasking. Uses computer based labor, material, and maintenance tracking applications. Routinely inspects worksites and evaluates staff tasking. Ensures staff attendance of required trainings and maintains records of departmental trainings. Evaluates job hazards and communicates information to staff verbally and in writing through various venues, including weekly and daily crew meetings. Responsible for providing timely performance feedback to staff and timely submission of end-of-season evaluations to Human Resources. Provide suggestions and recommendations for re-hiring, termination and advancement of staff. Works with Human Resources to address conflict or personnel issues as they arise. Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy and with the highest degree of professionalism. Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their subordinates as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, Quality Standard Procedures, and safety practices. Maintain effective communications between departments and represent department as needed at operational meetings. Routinely utilize independent judgment and discretion to solve problems and identify potential issues. Assists with the ordering of resupply materials for the department to maintain adequate inventory on station. Access, review, and approve electronic employee timesheets and Work Orders. Performs other duties as assigned . REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate or equivalent is required. U.S. Vehicle Operators License required. A current Journeyman or Master Electrician license, or your jurisdictions equivalent, is required. Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code and of the principles of electricity. Minimum eight years of documented experience in all phases of electrical work, to include rough wiring, wiring of fixtures and equipment, wiring of power distribution including voltages up to 4160 volts, and layout and installation of conduit and electrical devices. Must have been in a lead, Foreman or supervisory position during at least three of the eight years of experience, minimum. Experience with or certification on NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace is preferred. Experience in repair and maintenance of electrical motors, transformers and other electrical equipment is required. Experience in repair and maintenance of airfield lighting and/or heat tracing of outdoor insulated piping is preferred. Ability to diagnose electrical issues and to maintain, adjust, repair, and replace electrical systems and components. Ability to read design drawings and wiring diagrams is required. Experience in construction and maintenance of commercial and/or industrial facilities is required. Microsoft Office experience preferred. Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to use sound judgment and possess solid decision making ability to quickly, safely and effectively solve problems. Must be able to pro-actively identify job hazards and communicate those hazards effectively. Must have computer experience and be able to learn and utilize work order and timesheet software programs. Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica • Ability to communicate effectively with others and get along well with co-workers, grantees and other community members. Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts and safety objectives.
