Program / Department Summary Hurricane Maria left a path of destruction across Puerto Rico and many small businesses suffered significant or total loss of services and assets. Furthermore, many businesses lost employees who faced transportation challenges, loss or damage to their homes, or made the decision to leave Puerto Rico altogether. The proposed program will take a three-pronged approach to economic and tourism recovery in Puerto Rico that will benefit 2,400 individuals including business owners and employees and their family members. Our goal of this project is to enable small businesses to recover and jump start the recovery of tourism in Puerto Rico, while supporting the overall recovery and resilience of the island. Mercy Corps will implement a comprehensive small sized business recovery program focused on the tourism industry. The program will also include assistance for small farmers and fisher folk. Additionally, there is a strong focus on natural reserve restoration and conservation efforts in areas which historically have high tourist appeal or have the potential to attract tourists locally and internationally. Vamos a Puerto Rico outreach campaign. Mercy Corps and their strategic partners will work closely with tourism industry associations, technology and media companies, and other key stakeholders to support outreach across the island to promote tourism. This will include a public outreach campaign that will promote tourism in Puerto Rico through promotional videos, social media campaigns, and community events. General Position Summary Reporting to the Business Development Project Manager, the Marketing Strategy Specialist will be responsible for investigating, assessing, recommending and executing effective marketing strategies based on Project Objectives as directed by Program Management; collaborating with the Project Management Team to develop an array of marketing tools to complement individual businesses' marketing materials including video and physical media; supporting the direction of Mercy Corps' video editor / producer in the creation of diverse marketing materials including video and physical media that promote tourism in Project regions and for certain commercial hubs; assist with campaign development for national and international tourist channels and analyze of the effectiveness of each campaign; collaborate with internal and external event planning and associated promotional materials. The successful candidate will play an integral role in conceptualizing and creating effective strategies that will promote short and medium-term growth for the businesses participating in this project and specific tourism activities as well as lead the planning and development of storytelling assets for internal and external use as directed by Project Management. Essential Job Responsibilities Program Management Lead in the develop marketing strategies for small businesses including content creation for small business websites, social media and other marketing endeavors in collaboration with Project Management. Work closely with the Project Management Team on program development and implementation and as otherwise directed. Collaborate and lead in the creation of various media for national and international marketing campaigns. Analyze marketing data to determine campaign efficiency. Ensure creative marketing materials undergo regular review and adhere to brand guidelines Assist in the development and design of marketing plans for businesses participating in the program. Create various storytelling media including short business impact stories to complement reports to donors or other key Mercy Corps audiences, highlighting project progress and achievements and however else directed by Project Management. Support Project Management in ensuring all Project files and systems are in alignment with Mercy Corps guidelines and standards. Support the monitoring and evaluation process with project monitoring relative to media campaign effectiveness and as otherwise directed by Project Management. As requested by the Program Manager, the Marketing Strategist will support the creation of content for the quarterly reports to donors and develop internal media in collaboration with Mercy Corps HQ for a variety of stakeholder audiences. Actively participate in trips to the four regions of intervention to recommend and compile the appropriate media material. Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally according to Mercy Corps policy. Security Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership. Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies. Supervisory Responsibility Project Officer Assistant and/or Project Intern, TBD Accountability Reports Directly to: Project Manager Works Directly With: Project Officer Business Development, Video-Photo editor-producer, Procurement and finance team and Communications team. Knowledge and Experience Excellent teamwork abilities and interpersonal skills. Degree in Marketing, Advertising, Business administration or related discipline 5 years' relevant experience in Marketing sector with Puerto Rico companies. Strong organization and prioritization skills. Proficiency with Google Analytics and web analysis tools. Experiencia with social media, local media in Puerto Rico. Ability to work well in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Strong understanding of Microsoft Office programs. Excellent analytical, communication and representation skills. Computer proficient and savvy, especially strong working knowledge of various audio and video editing software such as Adobe Premier, Imovie, or Coral; diverse media development software for physical marketing materials. Legally authorized to work in the United States. Strong analytical and quantitative skills as well as familiarity with small business, tourism and conservation sectors is required, preferred with experience in Puerto Rico. Success Factors The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, have a strong sense of humor, multi-tasker, and able to work in difficult and often stressful environments. A successful Marketing Strategy Specialist will be highly motivated and interested in ensuring high quality media development, production and programming. S/he will have the ability and curiosity to work comfortably and effectively in the culture and relatively poor infrastructure of rural communities. Willingness to spend time in the field and work closely with program participants. Must be comfortable travelling in small air and water craft for trips to Vieques and Culebra islands. Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm as well as a willingness to learn and to be continually adaptive within a dynamic and often self-directed working environment. SDL2017
