Position Summary
The Operations Manager – Engineering is responsible for overseeing and optimizing all operational and engineering activities to ensure efficient production, quality control, and continuous improvement. This role bridges technical engineering expertise with strategic operations management, ensuring that projects and processes run smoothly, cost-effectively, and safely while meeting customer requirements and business goals.
Key Responsibilities
**Operational Management**
- Lead day-to-day operations, ensuring production schedules, quality targets, and delivery deadlines are met.
- Oversee resource allocation, equipment maintenance, and workforce planning to maximize efficiency.
- Monitor and analyze operational KPIs, implementing corrective actions when targets are not met.
**Engineering Oversight**
- Provide technical leadership for engineering teams, ensuring design, process, and equipment meet operational requirements.
- Support product and process improvements, leveraging Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Collaborate with R&D, production, and quality teams to ensure seamless handover from design to manufacturing.
**Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement**
- Develop and execute operational strategies aligned with company growth objectives.
- Drive cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality or safety.
- Introduce and maintain best practices for operational efficiency, energy conservation, and waste reduction.
**Compliance & Safety**
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards (ISO, OSHA, etc.).
- Maintain and enforce a strong safety culture across all operations.
**Team Leadership**
- Lead, mentor, and develop multi-disciplinary teams, fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide training opportunities for staff.
Qualifications
**Education & Experience**
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (or related field); master's preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in engineering operations and project management.
- Proven track record of managing cross-functional teams and delivering operational improvements.
**Skills & Competencies**
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and operational workflows.
- Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Skilled in data analysis and use of ERP/MRP systems.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
