Overview of the organization
The Puerto Rico Science Technology and Researchis a private non-profit organization created in 2004 to encourage and promote innovation, transfer, and commercialization of technology and creation of jobs in the technology sector. We are responsible for Puerto Rico's public policy for science, technology, research, and development. The Trust's mission is to invest, facilitate, and build capacity to continually advance Puerto Rico's economy and its citizens' well-being through innovation-driven enterprises, science and technology, and its industrial base. Our vision is that by 2022, Puerto Rico is a globally recognized innovation hub that develops, attracts, and retains scientists, technology entrepreneurs, and enterprises to unlock world-class creativity and competitiveness. Parallel18 is part of the P.R. Science Technology & Research Trust.
Parallel18is a top-level, performance-driven international startup program with a social mission: offering entrepreneurs from all over the world access to high-quality business training, funding, and networks to help them scale globally while working to position Puerto Rico as a unique hub for innovative businesses and technology.
We are looking for an Outreach Manager that combines a passion for telling stories with the vision to develop key relationships with a myriad of stakeholders to support Parallel18's growth and evolution.
This role has three main objectives:
Identify and pursue media opportunities for the organization and the startups in our portfolio.
Establish meaningful connections with entrepreneurial and innovation players in Puerto Rico, Latin America, the United States, and Europe.
Develop and implement new projects and partnerships.
The main tasks for this position are:
Design and execute partnerships for new projects.
Hire and supervise program managers for special initiatives.
Stay up to date with industry trends.
Represent and speak on behalf of parallel18 at local and international events.
Participate actively in the local entrepreneurial and tech ecosystem.
Develop external messaging for the organization and its different projects.
Train and support the team to communicate parallel18's vision and mission.
Work with external local and international Public Relations agencies to lead and execute targeted campaigns.
Develop short and long-term strategies for the organization's communications and reputation.
Create strong relationships with the most important media platforms in Puerto Rico, U.S., Latin America and Europe.
Be the custodian of parallel18's narrative.
Work closely with the Marketing Team to recruit the best startups and amplify parallel18's reach in the global innovation ecosystem.
Inform management at the given Functional Area of Communications & Marketing for the P.R. Science, Technology & Research Trust (PRSTRT) and its programs about all communication efforts being planned or being requested to him/her (i.e., strategies, publications, interviews). CCMO will determine frequency and mechanism to inform about these.
At this time, CCMO should be copied in all incoming/ outgoing electronic messages that involve external audience (especially if they involve press, government, corporate or agency personnel). No statements representing the Trust, or its Programs should be made public without prior consultation with the CCMO. Educational type of information may be deployed with the approval of the Program management team only
Adhere to the latest update of "Guidelines Communications & Marketing.doc"
Participate and contribute to the established forums by CCMO, as requested
Report to CCMO on the established frequency about strategies and/or project plans and progress.
Follow the process and practices established by CCMO:
to request work to personnel in the Marketing/ Communications internal group
to monitor/ assess/ report the outcome of such requests as they are deliver
The most important characteristic to succeed at this job will be the passion to give back to the entrepreneurship and innovation community in Puerto Rico. The program was created to collaborate and facilitate the path of the entrepreneurs and we need people to be there for them.
Some insights
You've got to have a doer mindset with extremely good communication skills and the desire to lead and take projects to a whole new level alongside an amazing team. You must have great research and proofreading skills in English and Spanish so you can help us avoid messing up. The ideal candidate has experience in the media industry, even better if it was in the business or technology verticals. Parallel18 is an international program so we require that our Outreach Manager be fluent in English and Spanish.

Working Conditions
General office environment in a modern open office in Santurce. The job may require occasionally working extended hours and weekends to complete special projects and reports. Some international traveling is possible. You may have to respond to special requests and emails in off-hours (only when it's really necessary.)
