Focused on delivering unsurpassed services in support of law enforcement and homeland security, FSA, a rapidly growing joint venture owned by trusted solutions providers Engility and AECOM, has a vacancy for a Paralegal/Legal Assistant II supporting the USAO. The position provides technical assistance to AUSA's in facilitating the management of incoming and outgoing document discovery in accordance with the district's policies and procedures. MAJOR DUTIES: Receives visitors and telephone callers. Furnishes requested information concerning pending and closed matters and cases, functions and general procedures of the office. Determines which matters should be referred to the AUSA and the urgency to the matter. Establishes and maintains a variety of files. Assembles legal documents from both physical and electronic files. Separates, screens, selects, assembles, and organizes files and records material for disposition or transfer to records depository in accordance with established procedures. Prepares requisition forms for litigation expenses and monitors for continued necessity. Reviews bills and invoices and submits to budget office for payment. Maintains logs of assigned active cases. Tracks filing deadlines, hearings, and other relevant dates such as oral arguments and moot courts. Develops and maintains a calendar for ongoing cases and informs the AUSAs of pending dates and deadlines. Maintains calendar(s) for the entire Appellate Division, which includes deadlines for criminal and civil appeals as well as habeas corpus proceedings, and provides reminders of commitments and court appearances. Performs general clerical/administrative functions e.g., requesting supplies and equipment, maintaining administrative files, organizing the file room, extensive photocopying, etc. Formats and proofreads appellate briefs and motions for filing before the First Circuit and the district court. This includes preparing table of contents and authorities and checking citations for accuracy. Prepares monthly reports of all filings made by members of the Appellate Division. Audits cases in the Division to ensure that all cases listed in Case View are accounted for, information is accurate, and that cases are closed promptly upon the receipt of Judgment. Prepares a report that tracks the progress of cases to include case disposition, method of response utilized (i.e. responsive brief or summary disposition motion), and panel. Might be required to travel outside of district for training or other purposes. A Paralegal II must meet the following qualifications: Associates' Degree and Possess a paralegal certificate At least 2-5 years of experience; trial experience very helpful Automated litigation support experience very helpful Basic knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation system sufficient to perform basic legal research Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, and telecommunications Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Security Access This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a 7 (or 10) year minimum background investigation.
