This position will have as primary responsibility to enhance and maintain our safety culture and procedures overall our business operations. To manage, and control Praxair safety and environmental policies into Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic operations. Ensuring continuity of operations, profitability, efficiency and growth of Praxair through consistent enforcement of laws, rules and standards on safety, health and environmental. Provide leadership to Praxair Puerto Rico B.V. businesses in the following areas: employee’s safety and health, product distribution, vehicle safety and environmental affairs. This position requires partnering with Businesses and Regions Operations, to develop business specific safety and compliance plans. As well as managing related safety work processes and ensuring regulatory compliance. Developing and implementing strategies for safety improvement. Managing safety and environmental training and curricula development. Accountable for developing and maintaining a staff of technical experts, and successfully practice teamwork skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Working with Line Management and Corporate S&ES to develop Rolling Safety Plans for their prospective regions/countries. This assures the major initiatives are built into the plan and communicated. Area Manages also track the status of the Plan’s activity and adjust to meet the Plan’s strategy as well as report the Regions. Hiring, training and performance of the Safety Coordinator that report to them. This includes all the administrative needs as well for expense, company cars and other support tools and systems. Serve as the point of escalation for any matter that cannot be handled at the local level or when the issue has national or worldwide impact. Providing coordinating resources from the Field group for program development and implementation. This includes training development, initiative development, inspection and assessment work and other actions from the Rolling Safety Plan. Active Team member to the Regional Staff, Area Managers Team and the S&ES Leadership Teams. Participate in other safety teams throughout the organization. Active role in monitoring action items and assuring corrective and preventive measures are in place from assessment findings and accidents. Provide Regional Management with tools and coaching to assure visible management commitment to the safety process and culture. Sole authority for any formal variance to company policy. At times there maybe technical problems with adherence to our policy. Area Managers are responsible for evaluating the issue and if necessary writing a variance that can accomplish the goal in a safe manner. Monitor compliance and accident data from assessments and reports to determine when and where specific safety focus is needed and address as needed. Daily fielding of questions, problems and issues regarding the safety of employees and customers including people, equipment, access to customers, customer safety etc. Education : B.S. Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience Experience : 5 years direct or equivalent experience in one or more of the following: safety, environmental, engineering (design, construction, production), supervisory plant experience (production, distribution). Combination of engineering and operational experience preferred. Experience in management of employees, a plus. Departmental budgets, project teams and support systems. Preferred Experience: OSHA PSM / RMP experience, Root Cause Analysis Qualifications: • Fully bilingual (English/Spanish) • Excellent communication and presentations skills • Knowledge of Environmental OSHA, & DOT Regulations. (OSHA certified a plus) • Proven ability to work effectively at all levels internal and external in the organization • Ability to develop, innovate and implement effective improvement programs through both direct and indirect influence across the organization • Experience in work process development and improvement (e.g., through 6-sigma, AQI or similar quality management involvement) • TAP Root • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Power Point, & Excel
