Career Category Engineering Job Description SUMMARY We are looking for a Sr. Manager Engineering to support the Central Utilities operations. Under minimal direction, this role is responsible for leading a group that provides technical and engineering skills to a facility or site. Responsible for supervising, hiring, and developing staff and ensuring engineering activities are completed on time while meeting safety, quality, and financial objectives. These roles are essential for Amgens success and will be a motivation in the Facilities and Engineering Department. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: - Develop and track departmental and capital budgets. - May lead system ownership groups: providing adequate maintenance procedures, monitoring performance data, providing adequate training materials, and continuously improving systems. - May lead a maintenance organization responsible to keep utility systems operating efficiently and authoritatively. - Liaison with engineering groups to provide support for the design, installation, start-up, and validation of facility and/or utilities equipment. - Perform work that involves in-depth investigation of subject area, definition of scope, selection of areas of investigation, and development of novel concept. - Conceive plans and conduct engineering investigations in areas of considerable scope and complexity. - Supervise, coordinate, and review work of a small staff of engineers and/or technical specialists on an ongoing basis. - Responsible for selection, training, evaluation, staff relations, and development of staff. - Ensure training programs are adequate. - Plan, prioritize, and coordinate work of a staff of engineers and/or technicians. - Established expertise in multiple areas of engineering technology. - Management of contractors and vendors. - Personnel mentoring and development. - Directly supervises staff. - Guides the successful completion of programs or multiple projects. - Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects. - Interacts with senior external personnel often requiring coordination between organizations - Essential to the completion of broad programs and projects and/or ongoing operations. Basic education & experience: Bachelors degree in Engineering & 8 years of Engineering experience in a regulated industry. Or Masters degree & 6 years of Engineering experience in a regulated industry. Or Doctorate degree & 2 years of Engineering experience in a regulated industry. And 2 years of managerial experience directly handling people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources Preferred qualifications: - Utility systems experience - Educational background/discipline in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering. - Licensed Engineer. - Ability to provide solutions to a large variety of technical problems of moderate to large complexity and scope. - Knowledge of Site or Facility wide. - Understands regulatory trends in industry. Some direct experience with FDA or equivalent regulatory body. - Extensive technical expertise. - Results driven - Change management skills - Process improvement skills - Lean Six sigma experience - Problem solving skills. - Working knowledge of financial analysis tools. - Ability to delegate and own the project work of others. Skills in the following areas: - Negotiation, persuasion and facilitation. - Written communication including technical writing. - Project cost development. - Conflict Resolution. - Leadership and teambuilding. - Mentorship, and counseling. - Advanced project management - Presentations to large groups - External networking - In depth knowledge of engineering principles. - Ability to motivate staff and communicate visions/missions.
