The Radiation Oncologist will provide radiation oncology physician services to Veterans at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System, San Juan, PR. Under the supervision of the Chief, Radiation Oncologist, the physician provides direct clinical and administrative oversight for mid-level practitioners, physics, dosimetry, radiation therapists and other clinical staff as assigned. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities The overall responsibilities typically includes, but are not limited to: -Provides initial evaluation and subsequent management of both outpatients and inpatients in response to consultation requests from referring physicians or other clinical services. -Utilizes various radiation modalities to include both photons and electrons, as well as mixed beam techniques. -Monitors treatment delivery and follow up on post-treatment progress. -Practices radiation safety to reduce exposure to patients, staff, and self, in compliance with department and VA radiation safety procedures to maintain occupational exposures "as low as reasonable achievable" (ALARA). -Performs Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). -Conducts patient simulation, radiation treatment plan and prescription. -Performs treatment and planning goals. -Participates in Research initiatives. -Performs residents supervision/education. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Required to be on Call. (Due to the critical nature of this position which involves direct patient care candidate must be willing to work extended and/or irregular hours including weekends and Holidays). Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Preferred Elements: Graduated from an ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) accredited Radiation Oncology Residency Program. American Board of Radiology - Radiation Oncology or Therapeutic Radiology.
