The Physician/Psychiatrist position is located in the Acute Behavioral Health Inpatient Care Unit (ABHICU), Psychiatry Service, San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Psychiatrist is accountable to the ABHICU Coordinator, the San Juan Acute Care Line Program Manager and Chief of Psychiatry Service or designee in the management of responsibilities in the provision of psychiatric care within the VACHS Psychiatry Service. The Staff Psychiatrist provides direct evidence based patient care tailored to the needs of the Veterans served. The position encompasses and has the potential to work in multiple different settings, including inpatient Acute Behavioral Health Inpatient Care Unit {ABHICU), Psychiatric Intervention Center (PIC), Consultation & Liaison Service (C&L), and Outpatient Mental Health Clinics. The Staff Psychiatrist shares clinical responsibility for the continuing management of assigned patients with the interdisciplinary team consisting of other psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and nurses. Exercises independent judgment in carrying out duties and responsibilities; Responsible for the "cross coverage" of other areas of supervision such as Acute Behavioral Health Intensive Care Unit, or Outpatient Care Line as assigned by the San Juan Acute Care Behavioral Health Program Manager or Chief Psychiatry Service; Serves as a provider of psychiatric care as part of an inter-disciplinary team; Focuses on the assessment/evaluation and medication management of veterans who suffer from a variety of mental health conditions, including, but not limited to PTSD, depression, psychosis, anxiety and other related conditions; Assures that every mental health patient has an assigned Mental Health Treatment Coordinator, either by becoming it or by assuring assignment within the interdisciplinary team; Provides assessment/evaluation of veterans with mental health issues, selecting then from a variety of resources and clinical approaches including non-direct and cognitive behavior therapy, behavior modification, insight oriented methods, etc.; Coordinates preventive health care needs according to guidelines established by the Department of Veterans Affairs and sound Psychiatry practice. Work Schedule: Part-Time (16 hours); Saturday -Sunday: 7:30am - 4:00pm NOTE: This is a part-time position. The salary listed represents full-time employment and will be pro-rated based on the actual number of hours worked each pay-period. Likewise, benefits and time-off accrual will also be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: 49-54 days paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days' sick leave, 10 federal holidays). Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement). Incentives: Student loan repayment up to $120K for eligible debt. Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory. CME: Possible $1,000 per year stipend possible 1 week paid authorized absence to attend. Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided. Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting. The individual must qualify to perform duties as a physician, have completed an accredited residency and/or possess experience which has qualified the individual to perform general duties and some specialized functions and procedures without supervision. Staff physicians may also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine. Basic Requirements: This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration. The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: Must be proficient in the spoken Spanish language. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Graduated from an ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) accredited Psychiatry Residency Program.
