Full Time Opportunity

General Description

The Operational Risk Supervisor provides guidance on operational risks and controls, and the factors to consider when determining the likelihood, and the impact and effectiveness of the controls. Supervises and coordinates work of the employees as well as processes and operations within the Operational Risk Units.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Evaluate Popular’s regulatory policies and procedures to ascertain that they meet the requirements from internal audit regulators, external counsel and others.

Along with stakeholders from all areas of Popular, lead, document and discuss analysis for any changes to Popular’s policies or procedures.

Recommend operational risk corrective actions analyzed by internal audit or regulators.

Evaluate Business continuity plans, and participate in disaster recovery tests and mitigation

Review risk assessments completed by business units, including documentation, inherent risks, controls, procedures, KPIs, and other metrics.

Establish and monitor a documented process for the annual due diligence and evaluation of critical services providers.

Assess service provider third party processes, policies and procedures and other related topics to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines, best practices or internal audit recommendations.

Identify and evaluate areas with increased trends in operational losses, high residual risk based on the Operational Risk and Controls evaluations, critical system implementation and initiatives, and other indicators that may have an impact on operational risk to establish mitigation plans.

Evaluate considerable operational losses reported by Business Units to determine additional actions or controls should be established to prevent additional losses; provide follow-up.

Identify trends to determine with business units if additional actions are required to prevent operational losses.

Report quarterly assessments, findings and/or procedures to the Operational Risk Committee, Risk Management Committee and Group Managers.

Assist in establishing unit goals and action plans.

Conducts staff meetings to discuss operational problems or explain procedural changes or practices.

Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, assigning and monitoring work to improve effectiveness.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field.

Experience

3+ years of supervisory experience required. Experience in Operational Losses, Risk Assessments, Risk Indicators and/or Vendor Management is required. Expertise in designing Audit Plans and/or establishing and analyzing internal controls is required.

Other Qualifications

Excellent analytical skills to identify situations, look for alternatives and make good decisions.

Proficient in the evaluation of internal control deficiencies and the operational impact assessment.

Assist in evaluating process changes to determine which controls are needed.

Excellent research and analysis skills.

Previous experience in reengineering processes

Experience managing a diverse workforce

Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish

Excellent organization skills required to establish priorities, multitask, work under pressure and meet deadlines

Ability to negotiate

Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork.

Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook
