Duties Help Duties Summary Serves as the manager of the San Juan Flight Standards District Office Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Serves as the manager of a Flight Standards frontline office (FSDO,CMO, IFP). Plans and administers the office programs to promote safety in all aviation activities. Has responsibility and authority for all decision-making in a wide variety of administrative and technical areas. The office promotes the aviation and safety programs, and may certificate commercial and general aviation carriers, pilots, mechanics, and schools. Responsible and accountable for the supervision, management and assignment of multi- disciplined work performed by Aviation Safety Inspectors which includes maintenance, avionics and operations. Responsible for aviation safety activities in a complex and dynamic air carrier and general aviation environment ensuring the promotion of the highest level of safety compliance with regulatory standards utilizing transparency of data exchange to include the identification of hazards and management of risk. Defines, plans, and organizes assigned budget, staff and other resources to accomplish objectives for more than one organizational unit or team. Manages budget and either reallocates resources among organizational units/projects/programs, or requests additional resources, as needed. Performs critical aspects of the budget planning process, including projecting short-term and long-term future needs and justifying resource requirements. Is accountable for all assigned office equipment. Responsible for the leadership, planning, prioritizing, direction, communication, tasking, training and scheduling of work. Also responsible for time and attendance, leave approval, performance evaluation, corrective and disciplinary actions, and the setting of the field office goals and objectives. Applies human relations skills and affirmative action principles within the field office environment. Contacts are primarily within the field office and respective geographic functional area(s) and for the purpose of discussing the status of projects/programs, planning for the future, and coordinating activities. Such internal contacts include Flight Standards, General Counsel, Air Traffic, and Public Affairs and with external customers such as the media, the general public, law enforcement organizations, NTSB, congressional offices, etc. Responsible for making field office policy and procedural recommendations and decisions with regards to air carrier, foreign air carrier surveillance, general aviation, SMS, certificate management functions, and a variety of special multi-organizational projects and activities. Work is reviewed for success in terms of achieving organizational goals and objectives. Performs other duties as they are assigned. Travel Required Occasional travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis. The travel may be for training or other work-related duties. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must submit an SF50 (See Required Documents) Interviews may be conducted. A one-year supervisor/managerial probationary period may be required. Second Class Medical not required. Position is designated as Moderate Risk; a background investigation may be required. Qualifications Aviation Safety Inspector positions have job-related medical requirements. These medical requirements include: Medical Requirements: Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, with or without a reasonable accommodation. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes, but not limited to: Experience monitoring and evaluating programs for compliance with regulations and standards; experience performing investigations and recommending solutions; and experience developing new or modifying existing policies and procedures. Recency of specialized experience is waived for current FAA employees in the 1825 series. Applicants should include examples of specialized experience in their work history.
