Plenitud is a 501c3 non-profit organization serving individuals and communities by sharing knowledge for a sustainable and harmonious life from our teaching center in the peaceful rural town of Las Marias, PR. Plenitud has been a leader in environmental educational services to farmers, students, and others since 2010, and our focus on resilience left us well poised to serve in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. We are still working to meet increased demand for long-term solutions like rainwater harvesting systems, agroecological farming, construction of emergency shelters, and school gardens. At the heart of our service is experiential learning in sustainability, nature, and the arts that engages people in community service and fosters relationships & connection. This VISTA will focus on developing and improving educational services (workshops, mentorship, academic collaboration) and outreach efforts (school partnerships, churches alliances, community service) in the themes of resiliency, including agroecology, bio-construction, and rainwater harvesting. The VISTA will be responsible for working in a team to develop and offer workshop series and these other programs in order to impact various populations in western Puerto Rico, especially youth and beginning farmers. They will also work with the staff to conduct market studies, community assessments, & create systems to increase efficiency and productivity of local farming. This VISTA position requires a self-directed candidate able to collaborate in a diverse and dynamic team setting who is passionate about increasing the resiliency and sustainability of underserved youth and communities in Puerto Rico. The ideal candidate is a skilled writer with good computer skills and at least 3 years of experience in the following: youth leadership, program development, experiential learning, and agriculture. This is a year-long position running from July 22nd, 2019 until July 20th, 2020.
