Distribution Automation (DA) Operations at Itron supports our utility customers with successful deployments of our wireless mesh networks for DA applications. We are seeking to add a DA Network Specialist to perform assorted technical and operational project tasks to ensure our customers success. The DA Network Specialist will work closely with Project Managers and Field Resources to ensure that Itron's devices are configured properly and on schedule. This position will enable a person to learn a broad technical skill-set including application use, device lifecycle tracking, basic command line configurations, and troubleshooting with our RF and IP networks. It requires excellent written communication skills and strong attention to detail. This is a growth position, with potential to develop into a subject matter expert that can provide architectural guidance, advanced troubleshooting, and leadership to our DA deployments. Responsibilities: Use a Unix shell to perform advanced network management tasks. Learn and become an expert in Itron's routing protocols and network management tools. Create, document, and deploy scripts and other tools to support network analysis for Itron's internal and external customers. Serve as a technical knowledge escalation point and a resource for customer facing personnel. Interface with Itron's customers as well as other internal Itron groups such as Network Design, Customer Support, Manufacturing, and Engineering. Understand, implement and convey Itron's technology for the purposes of providing analyses and documentation on customer issues, and provide architectural guidance and design documentation to meet customer needs and goals. Monitor, analyze and troubleshoot IPv6 and IPv4 mesh networks. Provide expertise in data gathering, troubleshooting, hypothesis creation and testing, event correlation and other analytical tasks in support of field troubleshooting, or engineering development. Assist Field Engineers, Project Managers, and other internal resources to distribute best practices that incorporate technical, operational, and business components. Provide SME level training to customer and internal teams on DA products and processes. Engage the Engineering organization and assist teams responsible for firmware and routing protocols in designing and testing operational, monitoring, and security elements into our broadly deployed networking product. Understand and provide troubleshooting expertise in DA related application products to assist Engineering and internal teams responsible in maintaining deployed software. Provide configuration support of our networks and related advanced troubleshooting. Qualifications: 2-3 years of experience in a technical, customer facing role with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience or aptitude using the Unix shell and basic Unix utilities highly preferable. 3-10 years of experience in a technical, customer facing role with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Technical Skills – The ideal candidate would have 3-5 years of direct experience of each of the below topics with an expertise level ranging from of moderate-strong for each. In-depth practical knowledge of: LAN/WAN networked systems, routing protocols, and network design, TCP/IP (ipv4 and ipv6), Network security and IPsec, RF/Wireless networking – WiFi, Zigbee, WiMAX, etc, Unix w/ bash/python scripting, Power/Utility Industry knowledge a strong plus: Metering, SCADA and DA protocols (e.g. DNP3), NMS / Network based polling systems Familiarity and experience using relevant applications such as Excel, Microsoft Visio, Google Earth, Tableau or Power Bi, Wireshark, etc. Database and/or data analytics experience a plus. Excellent ability to multi-task and track multiple independent concurrent projects and manage them to resolution in a timely manner. Education: Degree from a recognized college or university, with a bachelor's degree, preferably in a science or engineering discipline (e.g. computer science, computer information technology, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, or a related field) or equivalent qualifying work or study experience. Travel: Willingness to travel up to 50% within North America, but occasional international travel may be required. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel small and medium sized components. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and to lift weight or exert force up to 50 pounds. The employee in this position works in an environment where there is a risk of electrical shock, and there is vibration.
