Instituto Nueva Escuela

Instituto Nueva Escuela (INE) is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization. It is dedicated to improve Puerto Rican students' academic and socio-emotional outcomes through the implementation of Montessori education in the public-school setting. INE accomplishes its mission by partnering with public schools to train and certifing teachers in Montessori education. At the same time, INE provides leadership, support and technical assistance to these selected schools and community partners. After 20 years of steady growth and development, INE currently collaborates with 50 public schools and non-profit organizations that want to transform from traditional to Montessori schools. Thus, serving more than 14,200 students and their families in 26 municipalities on the island. To accomplish INE's mission, the organization trains teachers and school principals serving children and young people aged 0-18. In order to engage the community in this process, INE also recruits, trains and hires parents, from the communicity nearby the schools, to work as Montessori Assistant Teacher in the classrooms. The organization accompanies the schools in the development of a culture of peace ahd healthy coexistence. It integrates communitiy with projects for Montessori families, parents, family committees and encourages the active participation in the governance of the school.
